My wife and I recently took a trip to Branson and had the pleasure of fishing with Kris on Lake Taneycomo for trout. It had been many years since either one of us had done any fishing and Kris took the time to get both of us up to speed on our technique and had us catching fish in no time. We enjoyed our trip and Kris\'s company so much that we booked a second trip with him that week. The weather was perfect and the fishing was great on both days for us. Kris makes you feel right at home on his boat and tended to our every need. Fishing with Kris was definately the highlight of our trip and we will be back to do it again.

I had been fly fishing the Ozarks for over 10 years before Kris first guided me through the trophy section of Lake Taneycomo - a place I'd always found to be particularly difficult to catch large numbers of fish. Kris taught me techniques that helped me catch more fish than I'd ever caught there combined throughout the years. By the end of the afternoon, I caught so many fish with Kris that I lost count - conservatively, at least a total of 40 trout that day. Most importantly, Kris helped me land a couple trophies that afternoon, particularly a 24 inch brown trout. Kris is an excellent teacher, and he patiently ensured that I learned the techniques necessary to be a more effective fly fisherman.

The wife and I went trout fishing with Kris on Friday 8 June. He definetely knows where the fish are and how to get them in the boat. We had landed over fifty fish in four hours. My friend Steve Randle and I just spent two days (October 18-19, 2011) fishing with Capt Kris Nelson on Taneycomo.
On the first day, they weren't running enough water for us to get Kris' boat up river near the Dam/fish hatchery, so we wad fished just below the hatchery. Kris showed Steve and I how to fish areas of moving water followed by drop offs, where fish were moving upstream to return to the fish hatchery. We caught many fish once we learned to "set the hook" when we observed "any" deviation in our "indicator's" drift downstream. I hooked one bigger fish (Kris said near 5lbs), but lost him after several minutes. We caught many fish in the 15" to 18" size.
We stayed in Kris's two cabins and enjoyed a dinner and breakfast in Kris' home, prepared by Kris and his girl friend, Amanda. They are both wonderful, gracious and hospitable hosts.
On the second day, they were running more water, and we were able to fish from Kris' 24' boat. We went up river as far as we could legally go, and then fished, while drifting down the river. We repeated this "up river" followed by "drifting down river" many times. Again we caught many fish, while Kris often reminded us to "set" whenever we saw any movement in our indicator.
We had a truly great fishing trip, and returned to Wichita after fishing ended on the second day.

I was a complete newbie to fly fishing when I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days with Captain Chris Nelson. During our time on the White River System, Chris showed me several styles of fly fishing, from drifting and sight fishing to Tandem Fly presentation. By the end of the trip, Chris had me casting a dry fly and catching nice Rainbow Trout on each of my first two casts! Now I\'m hooked! His cabins where we stayed are very nice and the hospitality was outstanding. I was referred to Kris through friend to take my older boys trout fishing while vacationing in Branson, MO. As novice anglers and even less experienced fly fishing, Kris showed patience and took a real interest in helping all of us be successful during our day on the water. Between the three of us, we landed over 50 fish and hooked up more than 65 times. What impressed me most was the interest Kris took in teaching my kids how to fly fish. He joked with all of us and after 20-30 minutes, we felt like we were fishing with a long time friend. My boys are already asking when we can come back to Branson and fish the big browns later this year. Thank you doesn't say enough for the day and memories Kris helped create for my boys and me.

We enjoyed a nice trip with Kris on Taneycomo in early August, when the temps were hot and turbines running pretty full. Kris took 3 of of us his boat and had us into a lot of nice rainbows. It was a little early for the big browns, but we caught a lot of good sized rainbows in the 16 - 18" range. A nice bonus of fishing with Kris is some really fun dry fly action with hopper patterns. Kris knows the river and how to get you into the trout. We plan to make it a regular trip. I recommend Kris and Tandem Fly for flyfishing the trophy section on Taneycomo.

I wanted to better understand the techniques of catching trout on Lake Taneycomo, so decided to book an all day fishing trip with Kris Nelson. My wife and I couldn't of had a better time, as Kris had us in fish all day. My wife even caught a 20" brown and an 18+" bow.
